iRN will cease operations as of 1 July. What now?

Investigative agencies can find out a lot of information through the internet. However, this must be done securely and anonymously in order to ensure the safety of the investigator and to counteract risk of harm. In doing so, it is important that the information is obtained and recorded in a forensically sound manner. To conduct an investigation, Dutch government agencies use the Internet Research and Investigation Network (iRN). However, as of next 1 July, this iRN environment will most likely no longer be available.

To still be able to make anonymous and secure use of the information present on the internet, DataExpert offers an easy-to-implement alternative. Below we explain our solution(s) in more detail.

Basic iRN Laptop
For simple searches on the Internet, we offer the Basic iRN Laptop. The Basic iRN Laptop is equipped with ample RAM to run the necessary programs simultaneously, without slowing down. The laptop is also equipped with a SSD, which adds to its speed. The laptop is 'pre-installed' with Microsoft Windows 10 Pro including Bitlocker encryption to keep the investigation data secure. In addition, the laptop comes with several browsers, an Ubuntu and Android Virtual Machine, as well as Hunchly software.

Hunchly supports you by automatically collecting, documenting and annotating web pages you visit within the Chrome and Brave browsers, among others. This makes it easy to record every page you visit from the browser and makes your investigation transparent, reproducible and testable. It also includes a reporting function to quickly export encountered data and add it to your investigation file.

The laptop can come with a dongle for a SIM card, screen protector, hardsleeve, mouse and bag. In short, a complete system to get started with.

Advanced iRN Laptop
